Now that the Scholarship Marathon has come and gone, we don’t want you to lose momentum on your scholarship applications for 2013. This week, we are featuring a very specific group of scholarships that meet two important criteria: they have small pools of competition, and they award generous dollar amounts. We’ve separated these scholarships into two categories – national scholarships, and state/local scholarships.
Please note: specific qualifications for each scholarship are highlighted in green.
Deadline: March 31 Award: $10,000
This scholarship is for full-time college undergraduates who are enrolled full-time in an accredited civil engineering program or a related field as determined by ASDO. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in hydraulics, hydrology, or geotechnical disciplines, or in another discipline related to design, construction, and operation of dams.
Deadline: June 30 Award: $6,000
This scholarship is for African American, Hispanic, and American Indian women. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in the geosciences at an accredited college or university.
Deadline: June 15 Award: $25,000
This scholarship is for victims who were permanently disabled or who have a family members who died or were permanently disabled as a direct result of the September 11th attacks. Applicants must be planning to pursue a degree in finance, economics, accounting, or business ethics.
Deadline: Rolling Award: $7,000
This scholarship is for Navajo high school graduates who have a 3.0 GPA or a 21 ACT score. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have completed required Navajo Language and Navajo Government courses prior to graduating from high school.
Deadline: December 1 Award: $6,000
This scholarship is for men who are current USBC Youth members in good standing. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors or current college students and have a current 3.0 GPA or better.
Deadline: September 15 Award: $15,000
This scholarship program is for college-bound high school students who are legally blind.
Deadline: April 30 Award: $6,000
This scholarship is for high school seniors who intend to enroll in petroleum engineering in a recognized university program according to their country or region, leading to an undergraduate degree in petroleum engineering.
Deadline: March 31 Award: $20,000
This scholarship is for women pursuing study in information security.
Deadline: October 5 Award: $9,300
This scholarship is for undergraduate sophomores, juniors, and seniors at UNCF member institutions who are majoring in engineering or computer science.
STATEWIDE AND LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Deadline: April 5 Award: $10,000
This scholarship is African-American students born, reared, or residing in Ohio who are US citizens and pursuing graduate-level study in vocal performance or music, with an emphasis on voice.
Deadline: Varies Award: $9,000
This scholarship is for students from Green Bay or De Pere, Wisconsin, who are pursuing a program of study at a college or university. This scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement, record of community service, and extracurricular activities.
Deadline: September Award: $10,000
This scholarship is for students who are currently accepted or enrolled in an associate’s degree nursing program in California. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be willing to work in a medically under-served area for two years.
Deadline: September Award: $13,000
This scholarship is for students who are currently accepted or enrolled in a bachelor’s degree nursing program in California. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be willing to work in a medically underserved area for two years.
Deadline: April 19 Award: $7,500
This scholarship is for college-bound and currently enrolled students who are cancer survivors diagnosed at 18 years of age or younger. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be residents of California under 25 years old.
Deadline: October 15 Award: $10,o00
This scholarship recognizes and honors students from New Jersey for exceptional acts of heroism. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must have been 21 years of age or younger and have lived in New Jersey at the time of the act of heroism.
Deadline: June 6 Award: $7,500
This scholarship is for California students who are entering their first year of law school and who are from a racial or ethnic group that historically has been underrepresented in the legal profession.
Deadline: April 12 Award: $20,000
This scholarship is for minority students who have applied and plan to attend an accredited college, university, or vocational school. To qualify for this scholarship, applicants must be graduating seniors from one of the eligible Dallas Independent School District high schools listed on the scholarship application.
