Getting to know a college is one of the best parts of the college hunt! Today, we want to introduce you to Hunter College!

1.What makes your institution stand out from others students may be considering?

We are in the heart of NYC! Students are within walking distance, or a quick Subway ride, from incredible internship and employment opportunities. Significant numbers of college graduates aspire to live and work in New York City but Hunter Hawks can get a head start as undergraduates!

 2. What support services or diversity initiatives do you offer to first-gen, low-income, and/or underrepresented students?

Hunter is amongst the most diverse colleges in the country! A new multi-faith center has opened on campus to accommodate all of the different faiths and backgrounds of Hunter Hawks. Our opportunity program SEEK, similar to EOP and HEOP programs, provides both academic and financial assistance for qualified students. In addition, 33% of Hunter Hawks are first-generation college students.

3. What should College Greenlight students know about financial aid at your institution?

Approximately 75% of Hunter students receive financial aid, and we are proud that 75% of our graduates leave Hunter with zero student-loan debt! As a New York State college, you can apply for financial aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and the Excelsior Scholarship. In addition, merit scholarships are available through the Macaulay Honors College and our six Freshman Scholar Programs.

 4. What does your institution’s campus and its surrounding area have to offer students? (Cultural opportunities, outdoor recreation, athletics)

Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Hunter is within walking distance to world-famous attractions, including Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the MoMa. Every year, millions of people travel to New York to visit these locations for a few hours, but our students have the opportunity to visit whenever they like!

 5. What else should students and counselors know that we should highlight in our post?

-Hunter is consistently ranked as one of the best value colleges in the country. Not only are we affordable, we graduate students who are moving on to be the best in their field.

-Our Career Development Services office offers resume prep, mock interviews, seminars, and special access to internships just for Hunter students. This service is invaluable and available to all Hunter students for life!

-With over 70 undergraduate majors, we offer a wide array of areas of study. Our liberal arts curriculum allows students to pursue their passion while staying intellectually curious.

-Hunter has 4 residence halls all located on the east side of Manhattan. We house 1,000 undergraduate students.
