The Golden Apple Scholars program will help you earn up to $23,000 in tuition and assistance at more than 50 Illinois partner universities. This program combines a scholarship with classroom experience and game-changing resources to assist you during college and get you started in your first years of teaching.

The purpose of the Golden Apple Scholars program is to support students who want to help change the lives of students in schools of need. The teaching profession needs more qualified and passionate educators, particularly those who are from diverse backgrounds. 60 percent of Golden Apple Scholars are first-generation, 50 percent come from an underrepresented population, and 40 percent come from low-income households.

Illinois-based education students who plan to teach in-state after graduation should apply to the Golden Apple Scholars program today.

What you’ll win if selected & why you should apply: The Golden Apple Scholars program offers up to $23,000 in tuition and assistance for Illinois students who aspire to be great teachers in Illinois schools-of-need.  The program provides those selected with paid Summer Institutes that include courses and extensive classroom/work experience, academic support, job placement assistance, and ongoing mentoring from award-winning teachers throughout college and during the early years of teaching.

Who is eligible: Residents of Illinois with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and a qualifying composite score on the ACT or SAT. U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens (DACAmented student) may apply. View full criteria by clicking here.

What you should know first: Students who are accepted are required to attend one of 52 Illinois partner universities, participate in the Summer Institutes, obtain an IL teacher certification and teach for five years in an Illinois school-of-need.
